Jeff Riazi Joins Aubrey Thrasher

Jeff RiaziWe are excited to announce that on February 1, 2021, Jeff Riazi joined Aubrey Thrasher as its newest Partner. We are also excited to announce that Jeff will be expanding the firm’s footprint by opening and managing Aubrey Thrasher’s Denver office. Jeff will focus his practice on representing lenders and debt buyers in all facets of distressed asset management, commercial and consumer finance defense, and compliance related matters. Jeff has almost 10 years of experience as corporate counsel in the alternative lending and specialty financial services industries.

Most recently, Jeff served as Head of Litigation and Recovery for On Deck Capital, Inc. Jeff held this role for almost five years where he oversaw all business and legal strategy for OnDeck’s charged off loan products in the U.S. and Canada. Jeff owned all law firm partnerships, including engagement, performance management, and compliance oversight. He also managed all internal bankruptcy recovery matters, all debt buyer relationships, including partner diligence, forward flow and bulk sale negotiations, pricing evaluation, and compliance oversight. Jeff also has experience managing defensive litigation matters, including customer management litigation, broker litigation, intellectual property litigation, employment litigation, intercreditor litigation and consumer defense litigation, among others.

While at OnDeck, Jeff was a core member of the regulatory affairs team, which advocated commercial FinTech interests at federal and state levels of government. Jeff was OnDeck’s go-to attorney for FCRA compliance matters and was instrumental in standing up certain FCRA furnishing operations. Jeff served on the compliance team in respect of collections-compliance matters pertaining to the entire spectrum of loss mitigation. He also led collection agency licensing matters throughout the country.

Prior to OnDeck, Jeff was Associate General Counsel for SquareTwo Financial Corporation, which, at the time, was one of the largest debt buyers in the U.S. Jeff represented the company in a wide range of regulatory matters, to include claims brought under the FCRA, FDCPA, and the TCPA, among others. He oversaw hundreds of consumer defense litigation matters in state and federal court throughout the U.S., including numerous appeals. Jeff also supported the business’s extensive investment-management operations in terms of contract review and negotiations, operating policies and procedures, client-relationship management, partnership management and government examinations.

Over his 15 years as an attorney, Jeff has developed a keen appreciation for the value clients place on pragmatism and business-goal focus that clients need from outside counsel. Jeff lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife and two daughters.
